  【语法填空专练】

  阅读下列短文,按照句子结构的语法性和上下文连贯的要求,在标有1 ~ 10的空格处填入一个适当的词或使用括号中词语的正确形式

  A

Tina was a four-year-old girl when she heard her mom and dad   1   (talk) about her little brother, Andrew. She had got a lot of bad news about him    2  the doctor checked his body five months ago. He was very sick and his family was completely out   3  money.

One day, Tina’s dad said to her tearful mother in desperation, “Only a miracle can save him now.” With her coins in a jar, Tina made her way to a clinic   4   (immediate) she heard the words.

“I want to buy a miracle.” Tina said to   5  well-dressed man in the clinic.

The man stopped and asked the little girl, “What kind of a miracle?”

“My brother has something bad growing inside his head and my daddy says that only a miracle can save him now, so   6   I want is a miracle.”

“How much do you have?”     7   (ask) the man.

“One dollar and eleven cents,” Tina answered.

He took her money in one hand and said, “Well, these are enough. Take me to where you live. Let’s see  8   I have the kind of miracle you need.”

That well-dressed man was Dr. Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon, specializing   9        neurosurgery (神经外科). Andrew was home again and doing well soon   10  the operation that was completed without charge.

For one thing, I consider myself not only a teacher,       1       a learner. Being a teacher       2      (allow) me, in fact forces me, to be a learner. First, I must prepare all that I will teach, during       3       process I myself learn a lot. Secondly, I must find ways to help my students       4       understanding their assignments. Thirdly, I must try to understand and respond in a helpful way to my students’ ideas. Fourthly, I must force       5       to be creative, because if I deliver a boring lesson, my students will feel bored. And to be creative, I must learn more.

Moreover, a teacher’s job is not and does not need to be       6       routine. If you find yourself       7      (bore) with doing the same thing over and over again, you have only yourself to blame. This is because a teacher has a great deal more independence and control over what he does than many other       8      (profession) do.

Also, you may find teaching is a job dealing with people. It involves interacting with students and       9      (help) them to interact with each other. A good teacher will make his ideas alive, and will awaken his students’ minds. In the process, he will benefit by getting       10      (know) his students and their ways of thinking.

  Mr. President,

I am a junior in the university majoring       1       Mechanical Engineering. First of all, I am really sorry to trouble you, but it is the canteen service       2       indeed bothers me. So I wrote this letter to deliver some personal comments and suggestions.

The quality of some dishes needs to be improved. Every day,       3      (enter) the canteen with great expectation, we require wonderful food. But it always turns out to be a dream that never takes wings. Sometimes too salty, sometimes too       4      (spice), the food has never been as tasty as it ought to be. When winter comes, the food goes cold       5       we arrive a little late. Apart       6       the poor quality, the price  7     (suppose) to be adjusted too. Most of us can’t afford the dramatically high price of some dishes, which are just common and cheap outside the campus. We are just wondering whether it is for dinner      8       for appreciation. By the way, the gloomy and noisy environment makes    9    appetites completely lost.

To sum up, the service in the canteen should be improved,       10       is the quality of staff. Therefore, Sir, all your students, my schoolmates, will be grateful if you will take action immediately.

  Yours respectfully,

  Ricky Smith

My friend, Shawn Roberts, built a horse farm in San Diego, where he often hold activities       1      (raise) money for youth programs now. That’s because he had an   2      (forget) experience in his childhood. Shawn’s father was a poor itinerant (流动的) horse trainer without       3       own farm. As a result, the boy’s high school career was continually interrupted. In Senior Two, he       4      (ask) to write a paper about what he wanted to be and do when he grew up.

That night he wrote a seven-page paper describing his goal of owning a horse farm someday. He wrote about his dream       5       great detail and even drew a map of a 200-acre farm, showing the location of all the buildings, the stables (马厩) and the track.

However, his teacher gave him       6       F and said, “This is an unrealistic dream for a young boy like you. You don’t have money       7       resources. There’s no way you could ever do it. You will fail in this subject       8       you rewrite this paper with a more realistic goal.”

A week later, the boy turned in the same paper,       9      (make) no changes at all. He said, “Ms. James, you can keep the F and I’ll keep my dream.”

After listening to Shawn, the teacher said, “That’s       10       I want, my boy. You are sure to succeed.” And then she wrote a big A on his paper.
