T: Now Group A, please come to the blackboard and act out Part one according to your key words.
S1: At the end of the month, Henry was very rich and didn’t fear (jail). Dressed in the finest clothes, he drove by he brothers’ house in (Portland Place) and, seeing they were back, went to get Portia at her friend’s home.
S2: My dear, you are very beautiful today, it would be a (crime) not to ask for a good salary for the job they’ll give it to me.
S3: Oh, please remember that if we ask for too much we may get no salary at all; and then what’ll happen to us, with no way in the world(to earn a living)?
T: Who do you think is the best player in this group?
Ss: Student 3!
T: Yes. I think she is the best too. When you are acting out a play or making a speech, better make eye contacts with your audience to show your respect. OK,
Let me see you try.
T: Now Group B, would you like to have a try?
S1: Good morning, gentlemen .Portia, these are the men who helped me.
S2: So very nice to meet you, kind sirs.
S1: Gentlemen, I’m ready to report.
S3: Er … Portia, I …
S4: We’re both glad to hear it, for now we can decide the bet which Roderick and I made. If you’ve won for me, you shall have any job as my gift. Have you got the million pound bank note?
S1: Here it is, sir.
S4: I’ve won! Now what do you say, Roderick?
S3: I say that I’ve lost twenty thousand pounds. I never would have believed it. Why, that is amazing, man!
S1: Come, let’s be going now, Portia.
S4: But wait, wait! The job, you know. I must give you a job, as I promised.
S1: Well, thank you very much, but I really don’t want one now.
S2: Henry, I’m disappointed in you. You didn’t thank the gentlemen properly. May I do it for you?
S1: Let me see you try.
T: OK. That’s excellent. But I think because this part is a little bit long so Group B had some difficulty doing the whole part. Anyway, I think student one did very well just now.
Papa, he says he doesn’t want anything else from you.到Yes, the bank note was worth millions of dollars, but not worth one then as much as Henry felt about Portia.
T: OK. Now we’ve come to the last part of the play. Group C, could you please come to the front and make your performance?
S1: Papa, he says he doesn’t want anything else from you.
S2: My dear, is that your papa?
S1: He’s my stepfather, and he dearest one that ever was.
S2: Oh, my dearest dear sir, I regret what I said. You have got a job open that I want.
S3: Name it.
S2: Son-in-law.
S3: Well, well, well! But you’ve never had such a job before. How can I be sure you can do it successfully?
S2: Try me … oh, do, I beg of you! Give me 30 or 40 years, and …
S3: Oh, well, all right.
S4: Are Portia and Henry happy? There are enough words in the biggest dictionary to describe it. Did the people of London have a good time with this bit of news? Yes Portia’s stepfather took that bank note back to the Bank of England and crashed it. The bank note was then useless for money but was his wedding gift to the young couple. Yes, the bank note was worth millions of dollars, but not worth one tenth as much as how Henry felt about Portia.
T: Oh, I’m so surprised. It’s very hard for me to judge who is the best player in this group. Could you please help me?
Ss: Student one has the best pronunciation and Student B did the best performance.
T: OK. That’s fantastic. Now please open your book and turn to page 58. Read through the text very quickly and fill out the following two forms according to the text. These are all open-ended questions so your answers may vary. Write your answers in your in-class exercise book.
