内容提要：一篇优秀的高分作文应该内容丰富，形象丰满；词语生动、句式灵活、善于运用修辞手法，语句地道；有见解，观点表达清晰，有独到之处。
6. 巧用修辞手段
在这方面，英语跟汉语相通。常用的修辞手段有，比喻，拟人，夸张，借代等等。
比喻性结构新鲜活泼，形象具体，能给读者留下较深刻的印象，具有强大的感染力。例如：
1. It is more like a spear than anything else. (明喻 )
2. Mercy falls like the gentle rain from the sky upon the earth. ( 明喻 )
3. Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested. ( 暗喻 )
4. I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. (对仗 )
5.You’ll have to look at the time a hundreds of times a day now.( 夸张 )
6. Della stood by the window and looked out at a grey cat walking along a grey fence in a grey backyard. (反复)
7. New York never sleeps. (拟人)
8. The Great Wall runs across China like a huge dragon. ( 明喻 )
9.To finish the work ahead of time, I have been as busy as a bee recently. ( 暗喻 )
10.He is a lucky dog. ( 暗喻 )
11.Dusk found him crying in the street. (拟人)
12.He is as strong as a horse. He is as cunning as a fox. (拟人)
13.This is a city with souls of 150,000.( 借代)
14.The boss shouted to these workers in a loud voice which could wake up the dead. (夸张)
15. He is as poor as a church mouse.(暗喻)
7.使用英语中的谚语
和汉语一样，英语中也有大量谚语。若能在写作中恰当运用，会给文章增色不少,起到画龙点睛之效。现列举几条励志类的谚语。
① Where there is a will, there is a way.
② Time and tide wait for no man.
③ Practice makes perfect.
④ A lazy youth, a lousy age.
⑤ Well begun is half done.
⑥ No pains, no gains.
⑦ Look before you leap.
⑧ It is never too old to learn.
⑨ Failure is the mother of success.
⑩ He who laughs last laughs best.
