基础写作

Dear editor,

I’m a student in Senior Three. We have made a survey—“who do you turn to when in trouble?” Here are the results.

According to our survey, about half of the students will go to their classmates or friends when in trouble. Because they are almost of the same age, they have a lot in common and understand each other easily. A quarter of students will tell their teachers and parents about their troubles and ask them for help, holding that teachers and parents are trustworthy, have rich experience and always love them. Those who prefer to seek help from society account for about one fifth of the total number, because they believe the society is far more resourceful in handling their problems. Compared with the above, only ten percent of the students prefer to solve their problems all by themselves as they are reluctant to communicate with others and can’t get on well with others.

In my opinion, when in trouble we’d better ask our teachers, parents, friends or classmates for help.

Our foreign teacher thinks it benefits both young people and society if senior students delay making the decision whether to specialize in sciences or humanities, as students are not yet quite clear about their interest and talents.

Although the teacher’s idea seems reasonable, I don’t quite agree with him. After three years’ junior high study and one year in senior high, most students have got an idea what they are really interested in and what they are good at, which can also be seem from the results of countless tests and exams.

Personally I believe it does more good than harm if high school students can make an early choice to specialize in either sciences or humanities. As students are now under high study pressure, they should not learn all the subjects required in the curriculum. What’s more, students will have more energy to deal with the only subjects they have chosen, which will lead to better academic achievements. Therefore, students can learn happily and successfully.

It goes without saying that our society needs all-rounded people, so science students should also learn humanity course and vice versa. But students are tested only on their specialized subjects. This, I am sure,, will prove to be a good solution.
